TotemAires - Video from Division II Contest

We are pleased to share with you our contest set from the Evergreen District - Division II Chorus Contest.

The TotemAires sang two songs for our 2017 package:

  1. Let the Rest of the World Go By
  2. A Son of the Sea

Our newly minted Director, Sam Booth, led us at contest, and we learned a lot.  The judges provided a ton of valuable feedback, and we look forward to improving even more next year.

You can see the video here on YouTube.  Video is courtesy of Silent Knight Productions (www.silentknightproductions.com).

Singing in Public: A Lasting Impression

A small group from the TotemAires stopped by Red Robin on May 6th to have some lunch.  (Awesome service there, by the way).

While we were there, we noticed another group with some gifts, and asked one of the patrons if they were having a Birthday party.  They confirmed they were.

We asked if they might like us to sing, so after a little while, we went over and sang a very happy birthday to Kirsten.

As a bonus, you’ll get to see some shameless hucksterism, which will certainly be worth a bump when you see them at Harmony College this year.

Random Act of Harmony - Tacoma Mall

Random Act of Harmony - Tacoma Mall

We decided to grab a cup of coffee at Starbucks within the Tacoma Mall with a few of the guys.  While there, we thought, "Why not sing a few tunes?"

So that's what we did!  We sang 2-3 songs in the middle of the Mall.

Here's a little bit of the video we snapped - lots of fun, and tons of smiles from passerby folks.

Group Singing - Billy McHale's

Group Singing - Billy McHale's

Ok, so it's after the main Division II contest, and you're hungry, but still want to sing.  So...what do you do?

Well, you go to Billy McHale's in Federal Way for a great lunch and then break out in song!

The TotemAires finished in 5th place in our contest, and while we scored lower than we hoped, we had a great feedback session with the BHS judging team to show us where we need to improve for next year.  After we packed up, we decided - let's get lunch and sing!  The patrons in the restaurant had a great time and cheered us on.  Was great!

Magical Moments: Singing and Smiles

Magical Moments: Singing and Smiles

Spreading the joy of song to others is something we all strive for as Barbershoppers.  The Tacoma TotemAires happen to practice at a venue that is across the parking lot from a dialysis center.  After a quick phone call to a nurse at the facility, the Chorus confirmed that the folks inside receiving treatment might benefit from a few songs.

So, that's exactly what they did.  Around 30 members popped over before their weekly Chapter meeting for a quick visit.  During the performance, the chorus received a number of smiles, thumbs up, and applause from not only the patients, but also the staff.
