All Guests are Welcome
Whether you are a singer, or simply interested in what we do, we welcome you to join us for our weekly evening rehearsals.
We meet every Tuesday evening from 7-9:30 pm inside the Chapel at Puget Sound Foursquare Church:
Rehearsals – What to expect:
When you visit, we offer a general meet and greet starting at 6:30 pm. Have a cup of complimentary coffee, water or snacks. Meet our members and other guests, ask questions and soak in the friendship.
When we start our meeting at 7 pm, we begin with a warmup of stretching and vocal scales that lasts around 15 minutes. This helps us loosen up our bodies and voices before we sing. We will provide you with a Guest Book that contains the music we will use during the session. You may choose to sing in one of the four sections (Starting from highest pitch to lowest): Tenor, Lead, Baritone, or Bass. Many new guests choose to try out the Lead section at first given that it carries the melody, and generally is the easiest to sing for beginners.
Most of the rehearsal focuses on singing Chorus pieces and receiving instruction from our director; Sam Booth. The typical rehearsal also includes a variety of other settings including sectional rehearsals and tag-singing. We also will break up into quartets to showcase the tight and close harmony that is best known for the Barbershop style. Occasionally, a visiting quartet will join us to show their singing style and techniques – which is entertaining and fun.
Becoming a Member:
After you have visited a couple of rehearsals, and you decide that you’re interested in becoming a member of the group on an ongoing basis, our Chapter VP of membership will provide you with all the information about our chapter and the Barbershop Harmony Society, along with information about costs and benefits. We do not require that you pass an audition to become a member. You simply need to have an interest in Barbershop music, and a willingness to be an active participant in our group.
If you would like to sing in our public performances and competitions, we will require that you pass an audition to certify that you are capable of, and know your parts to sing correctly. Don't worry, this process is simple, and we will be supportive to give you all the material and info needed before you qualify for certification.
The TotemAires is an incredible "family" of like-minded singers who enjoy fellowship with one another, and, singing sweet harmony via the Barbershop style.
